This document outlines the struggle the park is having at managing the porcupine population and subsequent damage to the landscape plants of the SERC facility. A basic assessment was done with participation of various organizations to develop a management plan that is consistent with NPS policies. The outline of the plan and all recommendations are provided. Management Recommendations: Management and treatment will follow an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach. Eight core areas are designated “core” zones where plant materials will be protected and porcupine damage monitored (sites listed). Tree guard shields and repellents (comparative assessment of different types) will serve as the primary techniques for management, and appropriate subsequent monitoring will be done. There will be a variety of educational material put out to inform the public of the purpose for the various items. Alternative actions are listed and include: take no action, fence all vegetation, electric fences, and live traps. STUDY LOCATIONS:/ SCHOODIC PENINSULA.
