"This paper reviews information about habitat and breeding ecology of black ducks in New England and New York. The material presented has been gathered from the few published papers and many unpublished reports available on short notice, together with comments sent to us recently by biologists in some of the states in the area." Categories of review include nesting habitat, spring arrival on breeding grounds, pair status of birds on arrival, pair-spacing territoriality and home range, chronology of nesting, nesting covers, clutch size, nest success, homing by nesting hens, adult mortality on the breeding grounds, breeding black ducks vs. mallards, and breeding population trends.
