This report discusses the Amistad Reservoir's history and purpose. It includes agency mission statements from the United States and Mexico, the history of fishery management, major issues of concern, and cooperative management program goals for the Amistad Reservoir. Amistad International Reservoir is a 26,300 hectare (65,000 acre) multi-purpose reservoir that impounds the Rio Grande River. Amistad Reservoir was created under the provisions of the Water Treaty of 1944 between the United States of America and Mexico. The United States' purpose of the Amistand Reservoir is for water storage for municipal, industrial, and agricultural uses in south Texas. Mexico's objectives for the construction of the reservoir include flood control, water storage, generation of electricity, agriculture, fishing, and tourism.
