This report includes both the story of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' art and the use and development of his Cornish estate. When this study was initially conceived it was intended to be primarily a historic structures report for "Aspet", the home of Augustus Saint-Gaudens at Cornish, New Hampshire. As time went by it became increasingly apparent that out of the abundance of information a comprehensive history of Saint-Gaudens, the man and his art, was developing, as well as a report on the house. Thus, it was decided that the major portion of the study should be devoted to a biography of Saint-Gaudens, in which the story of his art and the use and development of his Cornish estate would be interwoven.
