A Study to Parallel The Vegetation Survey. The purpose of this study is to locate previous disturbances which have affected the structure of plant communities in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The project is part of the Biosphere Reserve program. The program is divided into three parts: 1. agricultural impacts, 2. logging, and 3. fire, windfall, etc. These will be approached separately, as is appropriate to the individual watershreds. In each case, old maps, historical records, and the completed work of other investigators will be reviewed first. This may be supplemented by interviews (to be taped when possible). A selection of sites will be field checked.
