Bald Eagle Management Plan

A management plan for bald eagles, a supplement to the Resource Management Plan. 'In 1967 (32 Federal Register 4001; 3/11/67) the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) listed the bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) as an endangered species in the coterminous United States. In 1978, bald eagles in WA, OR, MN, WI, and MI were reclassified as threatened (43 Federal Register 6233; 2/14/78) Bald eagles nest throughout Acadia National Park (ANP) and adjacent lands in coastal Maine. The park's Resource Management Plan (1993) recommended the development of management plans for all sensitive, threatened, or endangered plant and animal species. This Bald Eagle Management Plan is a supplement to the Resource Management Plan. The Northern States Bald Eagle Recovery Plan (Grier 1983) called for site specific management plans. These were developed for park nesting areas by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW) more than 10 years ago. This plan will update that effort and bridge the gap between the regional recovery plan and site specific plans for bald eagles within and adjacent to ANP.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ACADIA NATIONAL PARK/
