Fire Starts (from 1931 to 2011) in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho

Spatial Analysis Center - Yellowstone National Park. 2004. Fire Starts (from 1931 to 2011) in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho. Spatial Analysis Center, Yellowstone National Park

This map depicts fire starts in Yellowstone National Park (YNP) from 1931-2011. YNP fire files were researched by NPS firefighter/researcher Bob Flather. Superintendent and other reports were researched from 1931-1971 for maps and locational accounts. Individual Forest Fire Reports forms 1972-2004 were researched and entered into a database. All fire starts were matched with a coordinate point and attributed with a unique identifier for linking with future databases. All types of fires; suppression, prescribed, and Wildland fire use fires are included in the data sets. The data set includes all fire points that have been documented in 1202 reports, the SAC database or other maps or documents, that fall entirely or partially within the park's administrative boundaries regardless of land ownership, agency responsible for the fire, or type of fire (natural, prescribed, arson).
