The purpose of this historic grounds study is to analyze the available historical, archeological, and other significant data of the Little Kinnakeet Life Saving Station to establish an historic grounds plan. It was planned to be restored to its period of operation, 1904-1914, and the restored complex and grounds would provide the stage for interpretation of the Life Saving Service activities on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The study provides information and makes recommendations for the reestablishment of the site as it existed during the early part of the 20th century. The 1904-1915 time period for the restoration was used to determine landscape features that should be introduced to the site, such as circulation patterns, vegetative types and locations, man-made physical features, and surrounding landscape elements.
