The story of the American Indian people changing from hunter-gathers to sedentary farmers. A Shoshone tells the story of his people through personal recollections and family stories and histories as they made the transition from a nomadic to a sedentary lifestyle. Willie George describes the lifestyle growing up in a tribal setting, how a male child transitioned to adulthood, how his parents met and how troubles started arising between 'white men and Indians.' He continues his story by detailing the gathering of tribes to confront the white men and ultimately tells of the last stand and the eventual forced-move to reservations.
