The purpose of this report is to assemble and interpret all of the known information concerning the grounds of the Hartwell Tavern. Because the basic documents contain few details that relate to the buildings and other cultural features and their location, a certain degree of conjecture will be apparent in the following narrative. The immediate objective of this study is to provide background information for an archeological examination of the subject grounds, and it is hoped that it will serve that purpose.
