This study is a detailed, carefully written account of the early origins, development, management, and operation of the Southeast Archeological Center. It is the history of that organization, the programs it has administered, and its dedicated managers and staff who have consistently provided archeological services in support of the National Park Service’s resource preservation mission. Its intent is simply to bring historical perspective to long-term trends in the management and development of federal archeology in the Southeast Region of the National Park Service. The report focuses primarily upon the background, creation, evolution, cooperative activity, and oversight of the Southeast Archeological Center, which is located in Tallahassee, Florida.
