Pecos National Historical Park, New Mexico, preserves the impressive ruins of an Indian pueblo dating from prehistoric times and a Spanish mission from the colonial period. This book is a historical documentary of the eastern fortress-pueblo from earliest Spanish contact in 1540 to abandonment three hundred years later. It is largely a narrative, written in active rather than passive, largely biographical, concerned more with people that with inert phenomena.
