This report provides an understanding of Miccosukee and Seminole use and occupancy of the Big Cypress National Preserve. This report is not presented as a comprehensive ethnography or a full description of Miccosukee and Seminole Culture. It is based on a brief acquaintance with a very complex way of life and a complex history. Based upon limited information, the report is practically oriented, applied, and written in straightforward non-technical language. It is intended to provide a baseline understanding of what the actual pattern of Miccosukee and Seminole “usual and customary use and occupancy” of the Big Cypress Preserve, Florida was, as of 1974.
