This Historic Structure Report for Building 136 at Charlestown Navy Yard was produced to record the building before its scheduled demolition after April 1, 1979. The purpose of the demolition was to provide access within the yard to the new Chelsea-Water Street connector through Gate 4 on the north side of the yard. At the time of the report, Building 136 was directly in the path of this new road and, therefore, scheduled to be demolished. An administrative data section has not been prepared for this report. Construction began on the original Building 136, the Marine Barracks Administration Building, in 1909. The report describes the history of the structure and includes drawings and photographs. This contains the the architectural data section and archeological data section for the Building 136 Historic Structure Report. Due to limited funding and time, certain data is not included in this report. Omissions are noted in the introduction.
