This report contains administrative and architectural data for the Marine Railway No. 11 at Charlestown Navy Yard. When the Marine Railway was completed in 1919, it provided dry-docking capabilities for the post-World War I Boston Naval Shipyard. This industrial structure was an effective mechanism for hauling small vessels from the water for routine maintenance. An inspection of the abandoned railway dry dock was conducted in November 1977 for the purpose of determining what work would be needed to restore it to operating condition as an exhibit in the park. The preliminary report presents the findings of this investigation, including existing conditions and recommendations.
