Inventories of cave hibernacula 1987-1995 in southern Idaho, BLM Shoshone Resource Area found an overall reduction of 59% in total bat numbers for all caves inventoried. Townsend's big-eared bat was the primary wintering bat species in lava tubes with western small-footed bat the second most common.
