Moran PJ. 2010. Report of 2010 Research Activities Effect of Biological Control of Saltcedar (Tamarix supp.) on Athel (Tamarix aphylla) in Big Bend National Park, Texas. USDA-ARS. Beneficial Insects Research Unit, Weslaco, Texas

Tamarisk leaf beetles (Diorhabda spp) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) were released in 2008-2010 by the National Park Service (NPS) to control saltcedar (Tamarix ramosissima, Tamarix chiensis, Tamarix gallica, and hybrids) along the Rio grande inside the Big Bend National Park. A project was initiated to assess the impacts of successful biological control of saltcedar on athel trees that occur at or near the tamarisk beetle release sites along the Rio Grande in the Big Bend region.
