Southern Colorado Plateau Network, Hill M, Rink G, Ayers T. 2010. Herbarium Reviews for Four Parks in the Southern Colorado Plateau Network, 4Park_Herb_Review.mdb. Within the boundaries of Aztec Ruins NM
Since herbarium specimens are the primary form of evidence for the occurrence of vascular plant species in national park units, accurate specimen information must be maintained in the service-wide database for species documentation in national parks, NPSpecies. This project accessioned, cataloged, verified taxonomy, and databased all herbarium specimens at four national parks in New Mexico: Aztec Ruins National Monument, El Malpaís National Monument, El Morro National Monument, and Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. All park specimens housed at park herbaria and at the University of New Mexico herbarium (UNM), New Mexico State University herbarium (NMC), and San Juan Collegen herbarium (SJNM) were included in this study. A total of 1,223 park specimens were verified and databased in NPSpecies as a result of this project. Of these specimens, 17% received nomenclature updates, and 11% were annotated (identified as another species).
