2008 and 2010 Saltcedar Beetle Release Season Final Reports
Schmidt N, Wick SL, Sirotnak JM. 2010. 2008 and 2010 Saltcedar Beetle Release Season Final Reports. Big Bend National Park, Texas
In 2008, Schmidt describes the methods for care-release of beetles. Two sites were established using Crete beetles between Castolon and Santa Elena Canyon. All 2008 beetles and cages were lost in a flood in September, 2008. In 2009-2010, Wick implemented cage and open releases at the previous Castolon sites, and also at Gravel Pit, using Tunisian Beetles. By September, 2010, bothe Crete and Tunisian beetles were well-established. In addition to saltcedar defoliation, there was temporary defoliation of athel at several sites.
