Vegetation and fuel characteristics quantified using hierarchical cluster analysis and classification and regression tree algorityms to create spacially explicit vegetation and fuels maps for fire management within the Davis Mountains of Texas. Vegetation types identified: mesic woodlands, pinyon pine forests, alligator juniper forests, and gray oak forests. Forest stand densities and fuel accumulations were found to be high in the Davis Mountains, potentially resulting from fire exclusion from grazing activities originating in early 1900s.
