The Rio Grande River was surveyed between Lajitas and Taylor Farm to systematically identify living or dead individuals and populations of native mussels, determine locations of each, and document and collect all dead shells for preservation as museum voucher specimens. Surveys were conducted by Jeff Renfrow and Rebecca Evans between January 16, 2004 and May 27, 2005. Forty six (46) Salina Muckets (Potamilus salinasensis), twenty (20) Tampico Pearlymussel (Cyrtonaias tampicoensis), two (2) Texas Hornshell (Popenaias popei) and four (4) unidentified shell fragments were collected. Six additional shell (four Salina Muckets and 2 Tampico Pearlymussel) were collected by individuals not associated with the study. There is no location data for these specimens.
