This report is a history of the U.S. Weather Bureau Station in Hatteras, North Carolina. The research was undertaken to help Cape Hatteras National Seashore interpret the histories of weather on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. U.S. Weather Bureau history today can still be seen on Hatteras Island. U.S. Weather Bureau stations on North Carolina’s coast played an important role in early storm and hurricane tracking, providing late 19th- and early 20th- century coastal residents with their first weather warning systems.
