This article discusses the influence of topography on vegatation mosaics and tree diversity in Chihuahuan Desert Borderlands. Mesic valley bottoms were found to have high-diversity of vegetation types while hotter and drier mid-slopes and ridgetops supported lower tree diversity. This study stressed the importance of landscape and retional-scale topographic variability as a key factor in controlling vegetation pattern and diversity in southwestern North America.
