This volume covers the work conducted by the National Park Service at Chaco Canyon from 1969 through 1985. It was envisioned that a major research program in Chaco Canyon would evaluate the natural and cultural resources of a well-known area and provide information to the public through reports and an interpretive program. This was a major cultural resources management program that, because of its discoveries, resulted in enlarging the former Chaco Canyon National Monument into Chaco Culture National Historical Park in 1980 and its designation as a World Heritage Park in 1987. This report is the first volume of two. It covers the work conducted by the National Park Service from 1969 through 1985.
