Great Plains Wind Energy Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS)
Great Plains Wind Energy Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS). 2012
This project contains links to holdings containing documents and geospatial data products resulting from the National Park Services involvement in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services Great Plains Wind Energy Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement. In response to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS) Great Plains Wind Energy (GPWE) PEIS, the National Park Service (NPS) has performed an initial coarse filter geospatial analysis, to objectively and systematically identify areas of potential conflict or vulnerability. The GPWE PEIS is specifically focused on evaluating potential effects on the following fauna species: 1) Whooping crane, 2) Interior least tern, 3) Piping plover, and 4) Lesser prairie chicken. Correspondingly identifying potential landscape scale threats resulting from the proposed PEIS was the focus of the NPS response. Additionally the NPS is concerned with potential visual resource impacts form wind energy development, thus a visual resource analysis has also been performed to identify important NPS visual resources located within the GPWE PEIS permit area.
