Personnel of the Social Research Laboratory at Northern Arizona University surveyed the adult human population of Arizona to explore public attitudes toward protecting Grand Canyon resources. The telephone survey of 402 adult Arizona residents was conducted between 22 and 28 February 1993. Survey results indicate widespread (74%) support for resource protection at the Grand Canyon. Regardless of the nature of the threat, citizens support a variety of resource protection strategies. The survey also indicates that citizens are willing to incur personal costs to protect Grand Canyon resources.
