This document describes the program for the preservation and display of the Civil War gunboat U.S.S. Cairo located at Vicksburg National Military Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi. The analysis and recommendations in the following pages were first outlined for National Park Service management in an interim Cairo report in April 1979, at which time restoration alternative E was selected. Since this selection, we have been able to develop and expand our analysis, discussion, and cost evaluations for this Historic Structure Report. The unchosen alternatives from our April report have been included.
