The Resources Management Plan (RMP) for Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve (WRST) was prepared according to Resources Management Plan Guidelines (December, 1994) under the directives of the Management Policies (1988, Chapter 4.2) of the National Park Service. The resources management plan is based on National Park Service policy, legislative mandates, and executive orders. It was signed by Acting Chief of Resources Danny S. Rosenkrans and Superintendent Jonathon B. Larub on December 30, 1997. The purpose of the RMP is to identify, define, program and track the monitoring, inventory, research, mitigation, interpretation, and enforcement activities required to perpetuate park resources and achieve park purposes and objectives. To enhance opportunities for cooperation and coordination for the management of shared resources and to prevent or identify conflicts the RMP has been developed involving formal consultation with the State of Alaska. The RMP is long-range in nature, thus it identifies problems and needs regardless of the time in which an action is initiated. Additionally, the RMP serves as a funding document, used annually, to allocate staffing and Moines to implement resource programs. Only projects identified in the resources management plan will be considered for funding. The RMP is divided into three primary sections (Introduction, Present Resource Status, and Resources Management Program).
