Geology along Shenandoah National Park, Virginia
Badger RL. 1999. Geology along Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. Helena, Montana
This book is a guide to the geology along, and adjacent to, Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. Within the park, Skyline Drive stretches for 105 miles along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Along the drive, there are approximately 75 scenic overlooks and numerous parking areas at trailheads. Interesting geologic features are readily accessible and can be observed at almost all of these overlooks and trailheads, and, if one had the time, a week or more could easily be spent examining them all. But few have the luxury of such free time, so for the purposes of this book, I have selected only the most interesting and accessible locations along Skyline Drive from which to observe the geology.
