The Power of Sound

Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division Handbook Team (ed). The Power of Sound. Fort Collins, CO

Through this interpretive handbook, the Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division hopes to: 1. Increase understanding of the acoustical environment as a park resource. 2. Increase understanding of soundscapes as an important part of the visitor experience. 3. Promote interpretation of soundscapes and acoustic resources in NPS units. 4. Provide a reference for learning more about natural, cultural, and historic sounds in NPS units. 5. Provide interpreters with tools for developing programs that will connect visitors to park soundscapes and acoustic resources. This handbook arose out of a growing interest from park interpreters to develop interpretive programs that connect visitors to park soundscapes and acoustic resources. Although its target audience is the park interpreter, sections of the handbook will be incorporated into our internal and public websites as references for park managers and the public. In addition to the printed version, the handbook, in its entirety, will be available on our internal website. The online version of this handbook can be found at: http://www1.nrintra.nps.gov/naturalsounds/outreach/
