This brief study has been undertaken in order to trace completely the successive proposals of the Federal Government to provide an effective armament for Fort Pulaski, to show in detail the construction carried on in preparation for its arming, and to explain exactly the nature and type of ordnance actually mounted at the fort prior to the year 1861.
