On October 12 and 13, 2005 archeological investigations were conducted at two locations within Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site (SAND). This report summarizes the findings and recommendations resulting from the shovel testing of a proposed Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) reburial location, documentation of the Thompson-Bohart/Dawson Family Line Camp site, and reevaluation of the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility of the Chivington Canal (5KWI22.I). The purpose of this activity was to provide data necessary for completing Section 106 compliance for the proposed reburial of remains by the Northern and Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes, provide documentation on an unrecorded site, and update NRHP eligibility recommendations of a previously recorded site. These activities were conducted under the direction of the Intermountain Region Archeology Program in Santa Fe. Field work was conducted during a site visit October 12-13, 2oos by archeologists Janet D. Orcutt and Cynthia L. Herhahn.
