The intent of this report is to provide documentation of the archaeological monitoring carried out at the Sand Creek Massacre Site (5KW28) on October 8, 2009 in Kiowa County, approximately 25 miles east-northeast of the town of Eads (Figure 1 ). Cuartelejo HP Associates Inc., contracted with the National Park Service to provide archaeological monitoring for the construction of a new tornado shelter near the visitors' center at the site. Michelle Slaughter, historical archaeologist, Avalon Archaeology, LLC, conducted the monitoring on behalf of Cuartelejo HP Associates Inc., La Junta. Editing was undertaken by Richard F.
