'Included in the three most recent reports of these surveys were recommendations that a careful census of the deer population of Mount Desert Island be made in order to supply necessary data in establishing future deer management policies and practices.' 'The method employed in taking the deer census was the one known to be the most reliable of any to date: the "sample plot drive" method. According to this method, the exact number of deer in several representative plots of the whole area (Mount Desert Island) to be censused is obtained by counting the deer as they are completely driven out beyond well-defined boundary lines.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/
