This is a transcript of a tape-recorded interview with Alex Petrovic. Alex Petrovic (b. Sept. 23, 1922) from 1962 to 1966 was state representative in the Missouri legislature for the district that includes the Truman home. He then served for four years as the eastern district judge for Jackson County. These positions brought him into occasional contact with the Trumans, through which he is able to reveal Mr. Truman’s interest in local political affairs through 1970. His visits to the home were infrequent, but they represent an aspect of this era in the life of Harry S Truman. Petrovic discusses growing up in Independence as a son of immigrants and participating in civic activities such as the Sertoma Club. He describes local political rallies, the development of the Truman Sports Complex, and Truman’s opposition to a local college campus change.
