Historical Base Map
Tilberg F and Pfanz HW. 1958. Historical Base Map. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
This documentation for the Historical Base Map accompanies a corrected print of the Warren Survey Map which, heretofore, has been accepted as the base map for Gettysburg National Military Park. It will be observed that notations in color have been made on the map itself. Thus, certain earthworks and walls used for defensive purposes have been designated, names have been re-lettered for purposes of easier identification, some names have been changed, present park boundaries have been . outlined, hospital sites noted and an attempt has been made to designate more clearly the contemporary types of fences. The documentation follows the grid pattern superimposed upon the map moving from left to right and from top to bottom beginning with grid lA in the upperrieht hand corner of the sheet. Each grid square has been considered but·documentation for a gi.ven square has been set down onl.V"hen itvTaS believed that. documentation 1-TaS necessary for a better understanding of what should be included ona new map. Therefore, it will be noted that the contents of many squares are not di.scussed at all and that documentation exists for only a portion or the contents ot. other squares. lrJhen no documentation is indi.cated.it i.s assumed that the accompanying corrected Warren Map should be reproduced as it stands.
