304 bee specimens found from two sites: Bald near YCC Shelter Craggy Gardens and site 2.5 miles west of Mt. Mitchell State Park turnoff. Attached is the Report Summary and Excel Table with species names. Sampling on the Blue Ridge Parkway occurred across 2 years. The vulnerable area was located in one of the several balds that occur along the roadway while the common site was along open roadsides through mixed forest. Both were high elevation (for the Appalachians!) and surrounded by a heavily wooded matrix. With approximately 57 species(some species are difficult to separate) this is certainly a species rich site. The vulnerable site has a larger, less linear open area surrounding the sampling location and this may account for the slightly higher totals of some of the open country Halictidae species (Lasioglossum sp., in particular) and the higher totals later in the year as the woodlands had shut down as sources of pollen and nectar for bees.
