Original Proposal: Eisenberg and Sunquist, 1985 submitted to the National Park Service (NPS). Objectives: 1) To estimate the demographic characteristics of the deer population at two or three different sites within the Everglades ecosystem, particularly a hunted and an un-hunted site. 2) To determine the physical condition of deer at the different sites. 3) To estimate deer recruitment and mortality at the different sites and, where possible, relate these to predation, hunting, habitat factors, and physical condition of the deer. 4) To determine the seasonal movement patterns of deer at the different sites in relation to habitat types, changing environmental conditions, reproductive condition and, where possible, movement caused by disturbance or predation. 5) To determine forage quality within habitat types at the different sites.
