Archaeological Excavations at Grand Portage National Monument: 1963-1964 Field Seasons

Woolworth AR. 1969. Archaeological Excavations at Grand Portage National Monument: 1963-1964 Field Seasons

Excavations were conducted at this location from June 10- August 16, 1963, and June 8 - July 10, 1964. Trenches five feet in width were dug around the exterior and interior perimeters of the Northwest Company depot. Testing was also done west of the depot. In 1964, tests were made north and east of the main gate of the depot. These excavations provided a sound basis for the rebuilding of the palisades and gatehouse on their original locations.
