The Florida Panther in Modern Mythology

Maehr DS. 1998. The Florida Panther in Modern Mythology. Natural Areas Journal. 18(2):179-184

An article that discusses the current recovery efforts of the Florida panther and makes a plea for new approaches to landscape management to ensure the population future. In recent years Florida panther (Felis concolor coryi) recovery efforts have focused on reduced genetic variability rather than take a more balanced approach guided by both molecular biology and landscape ecology. Available evidence suggests that the Florida panther population is not on the verge of collapse, and that new approaches to landscape management are needed to ensure its future.
