The purpose of this report is to document the details of the Dogan House as found during the architectural investigation of the structure, in order to evaluate the information and recommend in drawings and specifications the physical restoration and rehabilitation of the building as it appeared during the Civil War years. The material in the report is organized to show the development of the proposed work, with a comparison of other structures in the area, a description of the architectural investigation, and a final summation showing its evolution with recommendations for rehabilitation. Architectural research and investigation started April 19, 1960. Part 1 of the Architectural Data Section was intended to secure approval to permit an architectural investigation, and it was approved May 20, 1960. Further architectural investigation continued to determine what was the 1860 wartime appearance of the house. The results of these later investigations were incorporated into Part II of the Architectural Data Section. Part III represents a record of the work accomplished on the house under the supervision of Orville Caroll, Resident Architect, Eastern Office of Design and Construction. During the course of restoration, some minor changes were required to the approved plans, and these have been recorded and included in the June 1962 report. The William Henry Dogan House was a small rural home caught in the crossfire during the Battle of Manassas. It is the last remaining building of the small settlement of Groveton, Virginia and one of two existing buildings at the time of the report that witnessed both the First and Second Battles of Manasses in 1861 and 1862.
