A report on the surveys monitoring coral reefs in the Florida Keys outlining the decline in coral cover. Previous surveys of two coral reefs in the Florida Keys (Porter, in prep.) have shown an alarming decline in coral cover of 4% per year. Our National Park Service study is meant to (1) expand the coverage of coral reef surveys in the Florida Keys, streamline and automate the process of censusing coral reef communities, and (3) if possible, identify the causes for their decline.
