These two manuals describe two methods for quantifying change on coral reefs: the line transect method (Part I) developed with Dr. Caroline Rogers, NPS, and the Photostation Method (Part II). The study was conceived to detect change in marine benthic communities. Therefore, while these methods can be used for one-time-only surveys, the methods are most powerful when used to compare between censuses taken in the same location but on different dates. Section A of Parts I and II describes the field techniques for establishing the "permanent" surveys; Section B of both parts describes the computer software available for analyzing the data acquired by these methods. These manuals, and the computer programs accompanying them, are not copy written. They can be obtained at cost from the following address. They will be supplied on 3 1/2" HD discs. This manual and the associated programs will be updated periodically. Any corrections or suggestions will be helpful.
