The purpose of this document is to evaluate the short- and long-term environmental consequences of eradicating the non-native tree rats (Rattus rattus) from Buck Island Reef National Monument, St. Croix, Virgin Islands, a unit of the National Park System, United States Department of the Interior. National Park Service (NPS) guidelines for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) require an analysis of potential impacts from the proposed activity on the effected environment. This environmental assessment reviews those potential impacts and the actions that will be taken to prevent any and all environmental damage from the proposed rat eradication project.
