In 1939, the National Park Service undertook a comprehensive survey and study of the island of St. John, Virgin Islands, U.S.A. in the Caribbean, as regards its establishment as a National Park. War had broken out in Europe at that time and the Park idea was shelved. The National Park idea lay dormant until 1954, fifteen years later, when the old report was uncovered and the idea revived.The question immediately arose as to what effects, if any, time had made on the area since the original survey. It was decided to restudy the island and bring the report up to date. The field work was accomplished in late October and early November 1954, and this report correlates current findings with the original report.
