In 1982-83 an aquatic research Action Plan was developed and added to the Management Plan for Voyageurs National Park. It called for addressing simultaneously the three resource issues: 1) lake level regulation, 2) acid precipitation, and 3) recreational use of the fishery. Specific research elements were identified for each of the broad areas. The various studies being conducted in the program compliment each other and, when completed, the results of the program should provide a broad spectrum of information resource personnel can use in managing the park's aquatic resource.
