The southwestern willow flycatcher is declining throughout the southwest. This includes the small population that breeds along the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. This article includes a brief natural history of the southwest population, results of the 1992 surveys along the Colorado River, protocol used, and some possible reasons why numbers are decreasing in the Canyon.
