This article describes past incidences of mountain lion attacks and the need for comprehensive local park management plans. A workshop was conducted at the University of California, Davis, on July 12-13, 1994, to better understand managing conflicts between humans and mountain lions in western parks. Liability is also discussed in the article. The authors conclude the work with management recommendations for parks with increasing mountain lion-human interactions that include completing management plans, limiting attractants, repelling mountain lions from public use areas, and furthering public education.
