Annual Performance Report, Statewide Wildlife Research: Diseases and Parasites

1986. Annual Performance Report, Statewide Wildlife Research: Diseases and Parasites. Study No. W-41-33 IX

Annual report on specimens collected and analyzed in the period between July 1985 and June 1986 in BICY. Examinations of specimens of sick, diseased, and normal mammals and birds were conducted. No large scale epizootics occurred, but a number of individual cases were investigated in scattered localities. Work continued on a comprehensive book on parasites and diseases of wildlife in Florida. A 2-year study of the health and reproductive status of white-tailed deer in the Big Cypress National Preserve was completed. Two distinct deer herds were examined and found to be different as far as physical condition and parasites and diseases were concerned, but reproduction in general was similar in both. A total of 152 deer was examined during the study.
