A portion of the Executive Summary: "This report describes the development of a method to estimate visitor use to Saint Croix Island International Historic Site (SACR) and the first estimates of visitor use for 2007, 2008, and 2009. In 2007, 2008, and 2009, we installed a traffic counter at the mainland portion of the site and recorded traffic counts almost daily from late April or early May through early November. In 2008, we conducted censuses of visitor use on a randomly selected sample of 3-5 days per month from May 1 to October 31. Our target was two weekend days and two weekdays per month. Censuses ran from 7 am until 7 pm, or until 5:30 pm as darkness came earlier in the fall. In the censuses, we counted the number and type of vehicles entering and exiting the site; how many times those vehicles "tripped" the traffic counter entering and exiting; the number of persons per vehicle; the entry and exit times for each vehicle; the number of walk-in visitors; the number of bus passengers; and the number of vehicles that drove through the site without stopping." /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /SAINT CROIX/
